Eco News February 2011

In 2009 thousands of people joined in the world record attempt at the most amount bananas eaten in a 24 hour period. This year we are setting a new world record – the longest continual piece of bunting. Order your fairtrade bunting today (for free!) and you could be part of this world record attempt.

A little more about fairtrade…
· Two thirds of cotton is produced in the developing world where farmers are trying to live on less than $2 a day.
· Fairtrade cotton guarantees farmers a fair price for their cotton.
· Fairtrade also ensures farmers receive the ‘fairtrade premium’ - additional money to spend on health, education or housing in the community.
· The fairtrade label guarantees sustainable farming methods.

Did you know…?
St Mary’s is a Fairtrade church. Not only do we serve Fairtrade tea and coffee and hold a traidcraft stall after every service but since 2010 the communion wine is also Fairtrade.
